Humayun's Tomb
Humayun's Tomb was build by hunayun,s senior widow Bega Begum, popularly Known as Haji Begum in 1565.Humayun's Tomb is one of the remarkable structure of Mugal Empire. Humayun's Tomb is build on a large stone platform, surrounded by green lawns.Near the Humayun's tomb, there is a mosque which belong to isa khan.Isa Khan is one of the noble of Sher Shah.This tomb has its own beauty and it is different from Humayun's Tomb.Is is said that Haji Began has spent half million rupees to construct Humayun's Tomb.
Humayun's Tomb is stand in build in the center of a square garden. The tomb stands on a stone platform with beautiful stone channels on each side of the platform. These channels were filled with water to keep the garden green and natural all the time.
Visiting Humayun's tomb is a wonderful experience where you get to see the Mughal architecture and the history of Mughal India. Humayun's tomb is preceded by a tomb with blue dome.
The passage to the tomb is long and one has to cross through three gardens and two gateways, one on the west and the other on the south. The gardens measure 348 sq. meters and are divided into 36 squares with water channels and fountains. The architecturally is built of red sandstone and red and white marble, is located in the center of the enclosure on a large platform. The central octagonal chamber has the cenotaph of Humayun, which is encompassed by octagonal chambers at the diagonals. Three emphatic arches dominate on each side, of which the central one is the highest.
The second storey also has a similar design, with a roof , high double dome with marble and pillared kiosks or chhatris placed around it. This architectural design is known as hasht bihisht and is typical of Iranian buildings from the time of Timur the Lame. The stone windows are placed in such a way on all the floors that they allow light to stream into the central hall throughout the day.
