Jama Masjid


Jama Masjid is the largest mosque in India. It was built by Shahjahan in 1656 AD with the help of 5000 craftmen.The spacious courtyard of Jama Masjid has the capacity to hold 25,000 devotees. It is also known as Masjid-I-Jahanuma, which means 'mosque commanding view of the world'.


Jama Masjid stands hills Bho Jhala , the mosque has three gateways , four towers and two minarets , the east side Jama masjid faces the Old Fort , it was constructed by vertical strips of Red stones and white marble has the enterence from North and South Gates. The main entrance of Mosque is from Eastern side . The tower of Jama Masjid has five storey’s each storey has a projected balcony. The first three storeys of jama Masjid are made from red stones and fourth one is made from marble.

The North gate of mosque contains a collection of Muhammad’s relics-the Quran written n deerskin, a red beard-hair of the prophet, his sandals and his footprint, embedded in a marble slab.
